Program Objectives
The department of special needs and inclusive education intended to meet the following major program objectives with the inception of MA program in special needs and inclusive education. Hence, this MA Program in special needs and inclusive education has the following major objectives to:
- Produce experts in special needs education to facilitate the implementation of inclusive education Produce professionals who can advocate the right of children with disabilities to education
- Produce professionals who are capable of developing, implementing and evaluating appropriate intervention according to the specific need of children with special needs
- Prepare researchers who are able to conduct research works in order to alleviate problems related to educational provision of students with special needs
- Train professionals who can teach and train at all levels of education
- Prepare professionals who can adapt and modify curriculum issues from inclusive education perspective
Graduate Profile
On completion of the MA program in Special Needs and Inclusive Education, graduates will be able to:
- Modify and adapt curriculum in the field of special needs and inclusive education
- Design, implement, assess and evaluate intervention programs for children with special needs at different school and social settings
- Conduct teaching and training in higher education institutions and teacher training colleges in the field of special needs and inclusive education Serve as a resource person on issues related to special needs and inclusive education in various settings
- Conduct problem solving research in the field of special needs and inclusive education
- Plan, coordinate, manage and monitor inclusive education programs and projects at various levels; preschool, schools, TVET, higher educational institutions, resource centers, pedagogical centers and community based programs
- Render professional consultancy and policy advisory services in the area of special needs and inclusive education as well as on the rights of people with disability
- Design, organize and run workshops and seminars to facilitate and improve the practices of inclusive education Prepare manuals for practitioners working with children with special needs in different settings
- Advocate child rights on the basis of international and national legal and policy documents
