  • Degree to be awarded by: Bahir Dar University, Subject to Senate Approval 
  • Standard Period of Study: 4 Academic Years with 8 Semesters for Regular Program, 7 Academic Years with 13 Semesters for Summer Program, 5 Academic Years with 9 Semesters for Distance Program, and 5 Academic Years with 14 Semesters for Extension program 
  • Commencement of the Program: 2013/2020….Revised 2017 E.C./2024/25 
  • Fees/Charge: As per legislation of the university. 

       Program Goals 


The department will work to produce competent and committed lifelong learning expert and adult educators who can serve as development agent in the country‘s endeavor for development and transformation. Thus, the major goals of the undergraduate program in Lifelong Learning and Community Development are: 

  • To develop basic and practical skills in lifelong learning and community development practices 
  • To establish in students an appreciation of the importance of Andragogy and community development philosophies and principles 
  • To develop the ability to apply the learned skills for solving practical community problems
  • To provide a wide range of transferable skills to the graduate 

    Graduate profile 


Students who have completed an undergraduate degree in lifelong learning and community development are expected to have comprehensive theoretical and practical understanding on advanced level, including:

  •  Knowledge of adult education, lifelong learning as well as community development 
  • Demonstrate life skills in lifelong learning and community development 
  •  Values that equip them for employment, citizenship and lays the foundations for a lifetime continuous learning and personal development.
