The donation is for establishment of an advanced wet lab for training Ophthalmology residents.
Thanks to the support the department has now a state of the art wet lab.
The donations inclue two operating microscopes with display screens, CCTV cameras for surveillance, 7 cataract sets, 48 sets of model eyes, 2 hard discs and 2 surgeon stools among others.

ሐምሌ 12፣ 2017 ዓ.ም፤ ባሕር ዳር፦ በባሕር ዳር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ሕክምናና ጤና ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ በጤናው ዘርፍ ከተሰማሩ የግል ድርጂት ተዎካዮች ጋር የማህበረሰቡን ጤና ለመጠበቅና የተሻለ የሕክምና አገልግሎት ለመስጠት በጋራ ለመስራት በሚያስችሉ ሁኔታዎችና የአሰራር ማዕቀፎች ዘሪያ በጥበበ ግዮን ግቢ ውይይት አድርጓል።
በውይይቱ በተለይም የኩላሊት እጥበት ሕክምና አገልግሎት እና የላቀ የላቦራቶሪ አገልግሎት እንደ የትብብር መነሻ ዘርፎች ትኩረት ተሰጥቶባቸዋል።
በመጨረሻም እንግዶቹ የኮሌጁን የተለያዩ የሥራና የአገልግሎት ክፍሎችን ጎብኝተዋል። ከተጎበኙት መካከልም ጥበበ ግዮን ስፔሻላይዝድ ሆስፒታል የላቦራቶሪ አገልግሎት ክፍል፣ የጣና የምርምርና ዳይግኖስቲክ ማዕከል የ3ዲ ቴክኖሎጅ ማዕከል እንዲሁም የአማራጭ ሕክምና አገልግሎት የሚጀመርበት ማዕከል ይገኙበታል።

Rebuilding Health Systems Amid Crisis
The college hosted a timely public lecture titled "Rebuilding Health Systems in Times of Crisis: Policy Responses and Resilience in Conflict-Affected Areas of the Amhara Region, Ethiopia."
The keynote address was delivered by renowned Health Systems and Policy Specialist Professor Mezgebu Yitayal, who provided in-depth insights into the impact of conflict on health systems and proposed practical policy responses for building resilience in fragile settings.

Orthopedics and Traumatology Department holds Workshop on Disabilities from Traditional Bone Setting
Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Bahir Dar University, organized succefully the 3rd round workshop on disabilities associated with traditional bone setting practices.
The training was delivered by"BOSAD" a national orthopedics project which works on traditional bone setting practices and asaociated complications from July 10-12, 2025.
This round of training, held for the third time, targeted school teachers and health professionals in and around Bahir Dar city.

The college Hosts External PhD Curriculum Review Workshop on Health Systems and Policy
Bahir Dar, July 14, 2025 — College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at Bahir Dar University hosted an external curriculum review workshop for its newly designed PhD program in Health Systems and Policy. The event aimed at refining and strengthening the academic rigor and relevance of the program through expert review and feedback.
The workshop opened with a welcome speech by Prof. Mezgebu Yitayal, Director of the Public Health Education and Services, followed by an opening remark from Dr. Amsalu Worku, Corporate Director for Health Sciences Education and Services.

“Enhancing Maternal and Newborn Health Care Quality Using eHealth Innovation in Public Health Facilities in West Gojjam Zone, Northwest Ethiopia: Implementation Research.”
We celebrate his remarkable achievement and look forward to the positive impact his research will have on maternal and child health services in Ethiopia and beyond.

The College Holds Webinar on Evolving Landscape of Mpox: Navigating Current Threat
College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Bahir Dar University successfully hosted a virtual webinar titled “The Evolving Landscape of Mpox: Navigating the Current Threat” today via Zoom.
Renowned microbiologist Dr. Awoke Derbie (PhD) delivered a comprehensive presentation covering critical aspects such as Mpox epidemiology, virology, clinical features, treatment options, and its implications for public health and policy.
The session also explored future perspectives and prevention strategies, sparking deep interest and engagement among participants.

The college organizes Training to Enhance Care for Children with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus
College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Bahir Dar University in collaboration with ReachAnother Foundation has offered a 10-day intensive training aimed at strengthening the comprehensive care of patients with spina bifida and hydrocephalus.
Fifteen dedicated nursing staff from the Pediatrics Ward, NICU, ETAT, and OPD participated in the training, held at the CMHS CPD Center.

Tana Research and Diagnostic Center's 3D Technology Hub Concludes the first-round Training
Tana Research and Diagnostic Center (TRDC), one of the research institutions under Bahir Dar University's College of Medicine and Health Sciences, has concluded the first-round 3D printing technology training program.
This initiative, led by Professor Gyeong-Man Kim, a distinguished expert in biomedical engineering, aims to strengthen healthcare delivery through advanced technological integration.

ሰልጣኞች ለፕሮፌሰሩ ሽልማቱን ያዘጋጁበት ምክኒያት እርሳቸው ቃልን በተግባር በመኖር የአመራርነት ብቃታቸውን በተግባር ስለቀየሩላቸው እንዲሁም በከፍተኛ ብቃት፣ብስለትና ጥበብ ስልጠናውን በመስጠት የተሻሉ መሪዎች እንዲሆኑ ስላደረጓቸው እንደሆነ ገልፀዋል።
ሰልጣኞች አክለውም ምንም እንኳ ፕሮፌሰሩ እያበረከቱት ላለው ጉልህ አስተዋፅዖ ምንም አይነት ሽልማት በቂ ባይሆንም ያላቸውን አክብሮት ለመግለፅ እንዳዘጋጁት ተናግረዋል።

The college Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Ethiopian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology
Bahir Dar, November 8, 2024 —College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at Bahir Dar University (BDU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today with the Ethiopian Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology (ESOT). The MoU aims to enhance collaboration in trauma and injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and community awareness on complications related to traditional bone setting practices.

Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology Successfully Conducts Non-Operative Fracture Management Course for Medical Interns
April 27, 2025-Bahir Dar: The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Tibebe Ghion Specialized Hospital (TGSH, CMHS), successfully completed the first round of the Non-Operative Fracture Management Course for medical interns. Held on April 26 and 27, the two-day workshop featured both lecture and practical sessions, focusing on equipping graduating medical interns with essential skills and knowledge to manage trauma emergency cases effectively.
