The college Hosts External PhD Curriculum Review Workshop on Health Systems and Policy

Bahir Dar, July 14, 2025 — College of Medicine and Health Sciences (CMHS) at Bahir Dar University hosted an external curriculum review workshop for its newly designed PhD program in Health Systems and Policy. The event aimed at refining and strengthening the academic rigor and relevance of the program through expert review and feedback.

The workshop opened with a welcome speech by Prof. Mezgebu Yitayal, Director of the Public Health Education and Services, followed by an opening remark from Dr. Amsalu Worku, Corporate Director for Health Sciences Education and Services.

Dr. Mohammed Hussien presented an overview of the proposed program structure and content. Esteemed external reviewers — Dr. Yibeltal Kiflie from Jimma University and Dr. Asmamaw Atnafu from the University of Gondar — provided in-depth feedback, fostering critical reflections and enriching dialogue around the curriculum's design and implementation.

The session concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Amsalu Worku, who emphasized the strategic importance of such PhD programs in advancing health systems leadership, policy research, and evidence-based decision-making in Ethiopia and beyond.

This marks a significant step forward in the college’s mission to develop transformative academic programs that respond to national and global health priorities.
