Admission Requirements
Selection of candidates is mainly determined by the match between the number of applicants and the available space at each period of enrolment. Specifically, the following requirements MUST be met for a successful admission into the Program:
1) The candidate should have at least a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Banking, Management and other related disciplines from an authorized educational institution. A candidate from related disciplines is subject to approval by program council or committee.
2) The candidate shall pass the written Entrance Exam set by the program or college. The exam shall consist of basic banking and financial markets courses with statistics/econometrics and research methods. However, foreign applicants shall pass an oral exam (interview), and may not sit for written entrance exam unless forced to do so.
3) The candidates shall also meet other criteria or exams set by the University and/or Ministry of Education.
4) Foreign applicants may, in lieu of sitting for entrance examination, submit the results of GRE/TOEFL/IELTS or equivalent language proficiency examination for applicants whose undergraduate medium of instruction is not English.
5) The candidate shall summit two letters of recommendation from previous instructors, employers or professional associations.
6) The candidate must follow the application procedure determined by the Graduate Admission Office of the college/university.
Graduation Requirements
To qualify for the award of the “Master of Science in Banking and Financial Markets”, the candidate must meet all the requirements set in the University’s senate legislation and successfully complete all of the 38 Credit Hours (130 Credit points) of the Program.

MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION |
The medium of instruction for the program shall be English.
DURATION OF STUDY |
Once the student has been admitted, under normal circumstances, the study period is two years for regular program, three years for extension, and four years for summer program. Each year is divided into two semesters for the regular program, having a semester break at the beginning of February and end of June for each academic year. The candidates shall perform an internship and develop a thesis proposal in the third semester, and the fourth semester shall be allotted exclusively for final MSc thesis work. For the extension program, one academic year has three terms (semesters). For the summer program, one academic year has two terms referred to as summer term and Bega term. In case of academic problems or the likes, the student can extend his/her study where the extension is recommended by the department/program council and endorsed by academic council. But the extension for all modalities should not be more than twice the normal duration of the program.

A student admitted to the ‘MSc in Banking and Financial Markets” program is required to take 38 credit hours (130 credit points) including internship and thesis work.
PARTNERSHIPS / COOPERATION |
The College of Business and Economics, Bahir Dar University, has established connections and recognition with public and private actors at regional, national and international levels including the financial institutions particularly commercial banks, insurance companies and microfinance institutions, which will have a substantial contribution for the successful implementation of this Master program. The college is closely working with private businesses and financial institutions particularly at Bahir Bar city through research, community service and training on various topics or issues.
