Meet Our Health Sciences Education and Services Corporate Director (HESCD)

The Health Sciences Education and Services Corporate Director (HESCD) plays a pivotal role in leading our academic and healthcare initiatives. Nominated by the Chief Executive Director (CED) and approved by the college board, the HESCD is a highly qualified individual, elected by the college community, holding an Assistant Professor qualification or above, and/or a PhD or equivalent degree. The director serves a three-year term, with the possibility of reappointment for an additional term. The HESCD is directly accountable to the CED.

Key Responsibilities and Expertise

The HESCD brings a diverse set of academic leadership and management skills, coupled with extensive healthcare and hospital experience as a senior physician, possessing optimal clinical leadership and management expertise. Their duties include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Forming part of the executive management team alongside the CED and other corporate directors to guide the college's overall direction.
  • Standards and Quality Assurance: Formulating and enforcing high standards and work procedures for academic and health service units, aligning with university and national policies. This includes designing robust quality assurance mechanisms for all programs and projects to ensure superior levels of quality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Clinical and Educational Coordination: Planning and coordinating the activities of clinical departments and units across the hospital and its affiliate sites to deliver top-tier medical services and education.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Overseeing strict compliance with all relevant government regulations concerning quality service and patient safety.
  • Resource Management: Facilitating the mobilization, generation, diversification, and intelligent use of resources to support college activities. This also involves overseeing the optimal distribution of essential learning materials, equipment, library resources, facilities, and medical supplies.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Fostering strong interdisciplinary ties and joint operations between academic and healthcare units to enhance collective planning and execution.
  • External Partnerships: Initiating and facilitating collaborations with foreign academic, medical, and healthcare institutions, as well as philanthropists and industry partners.
  • Program Development and Operation: Ensuring the smooth operation of specialty and subspecialty certificate programs, postgraduate studies, the Registrar office, laboratory centers, and the library. The HESCD also facilitates the efficient functioning of the teaching hospital and its affiliate sites and works on expanding need-based academic programs and clinical services.
  • Evidence-Based Practice: Ensuring that health services promote the relevance and quality of evidence-based practices and medical technologies to guide value-based healthcare and improve the quality of life in the country.
  • Staff Development & Awards: Actively working on staff development based on identified needs and ensuring the implementation of all academic and service-related award directives, such as best teacher, clinician, and hospital service provider awards, among others.
