Teachers are the architects of future generations and the foundational pillars of nation-building. They are the linchpin of quality education, transforming curricula into lived learning experiences and empowering students to thrive.
In a dynamic world, teacher education must adapt. Our teacher preparation approaches are shaped by advances in human learning and development, and the need for versatile teachers. The demands of our dynamic world necessitate that teachers possess not only strong subject matter expertise but also a versatile set of skills and dispositions to effectively prepare their students for success.
With the motto 're-initiating the Peda-vision,' the School of Teacher Education, re-established in 2023, aspires to be an African center of excellence. Building on the legacy of the 1972 Academy of Pedagogy (now Bahir Dar University), we aim to prepare teachers who fit Ethiopia's classroom realities and address the quality education crisis.
Our research and community service will focus on problem-solving, with key themes including English Language Improvement, Inquiry in Science and Mathematics Education, Numeracy and Literacy, 21st Century Skills, Indigenous Knowledge, and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). We utilize design-based research to provide context-based solutions, ensuring our findings influence policy and practice. We are actively building strategic partnerships with government and non-government organizations to achieve these goals. With the strong commitment of our school community and leadership, we will lead the way in transforming the Ethiopian education system to meet the highest standards.
