BiT-BDU Hosts 13th EAI ICAST 2025 Conference

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU) hosted the 13th EAI International Conference on the Advancements of Science and Technology (EAI ICAST 2025) a premier international event bringing together scholars, researchers, and innovators from around the world. The conference, co-organized by BiT-BDU and the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), serves as a key platform for scientific exchange, technological advancement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. The 2025 edition marks thirteen consecutive years of ICAST, reflecting BiTโs long-standing commitment to promoting research excellence and innovation in Ethiopia and beyond.
Professor Essey Kebede, Academic Vice President of Bahir Dar University (BDU), welcomed participants and emphasized the universityโs commitment to excellence in education, research, innovation, and community engagement. He noted that BDU, with its motto โWisdom at the Source of the Blue Nile,โ is one of Ethiopiaโs largest higher education institutions, offering 446 academic programs across nine campuses. He stated that the EAI ICAST Conference aligns with BDUโs 2025โ2030 strategic plan, focusing on academic excellence, research and innovation, community engagement, and international partnerships. He also highlighted ICASTโs role as a platform connecting scholars, policymakers, and industry leaders, with proceedings published in three Scopus-indexed Springer book series, showcasing BDUโs global impact. He concluded by expressing gratitude to BiT, the European Alliance for Innovation, sponsors, organizing committees, and participants for their contributions to the conferenceโs success.
Dr. Mitiku Damitie, Scientific Director of BiT, in his opening remarks, expressed pride in hosting the event and highlighted BiTโs growing international reputation. He noted that 50 papers were submitted by international authors, showing ICASTโs expanding global reach. He stated that all accepted papers will be published in Springer-indexed journals, making ICAST the only Ethiopian conference with Scopus-indexed proceedings. He shared that BiT produced 412 research papers in 2024โ2025, accounting for 26% of Bahir Dar Universityโs total publications. Currently, BiT serves over 4,000 students in 20 undergraduate and 70 postgraduate programs, with ABET-accredited engineering programs and a 99.5% national exam pass rate. He also reaffirmed BiTโs mission to nurture globally competent graduates and thanked all partners for supporting innovation and research excellence.
Dr. Muluken Zegeye Getie, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Technology Transfer at BiT, warmly welcomed participants to the 13th EAI International Conference on the Advancements of Science and Technology (ICAST 2025). He stated ICAST as a premier international platform for researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to exchange innovative ideas and foster collaborations that drive scientific and technological progress. He noted that the institute hosts two annual international conferences EAI ICAST and ICT4DA which have become hallmarks of its dedication to global research visibility. As he articulates, the 2025 edition reached new milestones with 262 submissions and 104 accepted papers, alongside a rise in international authorship. The conference proceedings, published in three Scopus-indexed Springer book series, reflect ICASTโs growing academic impact.
The 13th EAI ICAST 2025 Conference will conclude this evening, with selected papers currently being presented in parallel sessions, marking the culmination of a highly successful international scientific event.
