BDU Job and Start-Up Fair 2026 Officially Opens

Bahir Dar University (BDU) has officially launched its Job and Start-Up Fair 2026 in a ceremony attended by the university president, invited guests, industry representatives, and partner organizations. The event, organized by the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) in collaboration with stakeholders, aims to connect graduating students with employers and foster innovation through start-up initiatives.
The program was introduced by Mr. Hailemariam Mulugeta, Director of the BiT Business Incubation and Technology Innovation Center, who highlighted the institute’s achievements in hosting multiple innovation competitions during the academic year. He emphasized that the fair provides a platform where graduates can showcase their skills and knowledge directly to employers, paving the way for employment and collaborative opportunities.
Welcoming participants, Dr. Mitiku Damtie, Scientific Director of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, underscored BDU’s legacy as one of Ethiopia’s largest universities, with a history spanning 64 years. He noted that the university began with just five programs and has since expanded to offer 20 undergraduate and 65 postgraduate programs at BiT alone. Over the decades, BDU has produced thousands of professionals contributing nationally and internationally, with alumni serving in renowned organizations such as NASA, Airbus, Boeing, and Amazon.
In his opening remarks, BDU President Dr. Mengesha Ayen described the fair as a milestone initiative that reflects the university’s vision of addressing local challenges through advanced technology while enhancing global competitiveness. He highlighted the university’s strong commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship through its Maker Space Center—the largest of its kind in Ethiopia—which enables students to transform creative ideas into practical solutions and business ventures before graduation. He noted that several graduates have successfully established their own companies, demonstrating the university’s growing contribution to job creation and economic development.
The president further stated that the fair serves as a strategic platform for strengthening the linkage between academia and industry, facilitating smoother transitions for graduates into the labor market. He noted that BDU currently offers more than 440 programs across undergraduate, postgraduate, specialty, and subspecialty levels, continuously supplying highly skilled professionals to meet national and international workforce demands.
The event also highlighted the significant role of the BiT Career Development Center in preparing graduating students for employment. Through a series of pre-job fair activities, including employability and job-readiness training, CV clinics, career guidance sessions, and interview preparation workshops, the center has equipped students with the professional skills and confidence required to compete effectively in the labor market. These initiatives have enhanced students’ readiness to engage with employers and maximize opportunities created through the Job and Start-Up Fair.
At the close of the ceremony, partner organizations that made significant contributions to the success of the program were honored with certificates of recognition presented by the university president.
