Bahir Dar Institute of Technology Hosts 14th EAI International Conference on Advancements of Science and Technology (EAI ICAST 2026)

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BIT), in collaboration with the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), has hosted the 14th International Conference on Advancements of Science and Technology (EAI ICAST 2026).
Delivering a welcoming address at the conference, Dr. Muluken Zegeye, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Technology Transfer at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, expressed his appreciation to the researchers, academics, industry professionals, policymakers, and innovators participating in the conference.
Dr. Muluken said ICAST has grown from a promising regional gathering into a genuinely international platform for scientific exchange.
He further explained that ICAST serves as a dynamic interdisciplinary forum for sharing scientific knowledge, presenting emerging discoveries, and exploring practical responses to contemporary societal challenges.
Dr. Mitiku Damtie, Scientific Director of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, also welcomed the participants and highlighted the institution’s longstanding contribution to engineering and technological education in Ethiopia.
“For over six decades, BIT has stood at the forefront of engineering and technological education in Ethiopia,” Dr. Mitiku said, outlining the institution’s contributions to education and research.
He noted that BIT is increasingly becoming a global academic home, welcoming students from around the world. According to Dr. Mitiku, the institute currently hosts more than 40 international students in addition to its Ethiopian students.
He further emphasized the significance of the conference, saying that hosting ICAST continuously for fourteen years reflects BIT’s sustained commitment to creating a platform where brilliant minds can meet, share groundbreaking findings, and establish lasting research partnerships.
The guest of honor, Bahir Dar University President Dr. Mengesha Ayene, expressed his appreciation for being part of the event and thanked the organizers and stakeholders for their contributions to the conference.
Dr. Mengesha described ICAST as being more than a conference, noting that it contributes to bringing researchers together to address challenges collaboratively by utilizing Bahir Dar University’s local and international networks and partnerships.
The 14th EAI ICAST 2026 also featured the participation of internationally recognized scholars and researchers through online platforms, in addition to those attending in person.
Dr. Ioannis Tsipouridis, Director of the Renewable Energy and Climate Change Research Center at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM), Kenya, delivered the opening keynote address under the title “The Quadruple Planetary Crisis.”
Professor Shegaw Anagaw of the University of South-Eastern Norway also presented a paper entitled “Responsible and Ethical AI for Science, Technology, and Innovation in Sub-Saharan Africa, Opportunities and Challenges.”
Participants engaged with the speakers through questions and comments on the issues presented, with the speakers providing responses and further insights.
The conference continued through parallel sessions, where numerous scholars and researchers presented their research findings and engaged in discussions on a range of issues related to science, technology, innovation, and research.
