==========================
Students at the Business Incubation Center of Bahir Dar University Institute of Technology have successfully developed and launched a new software system called the Incubation and Innovation Management System (IIMS).
The launch event took place in the presence of institute leaders and key stakeholders. The system was developed by Software Engineering students with the aim of improving incubation and innovation management processes.
During the event, Dr. Muluken Zegaye, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Technology Transfer at the institute, delivered a welcome speech. He praised the Business Incubation Center staff for their encouraging work and noted that the newly developed software will significantly contribute to accelerating the country’s ongoing digitalization efforts.
One of the developers, a young innovator named Arsema Degu, explained that their startup, KAB Digital Solution, has previously developed various software products for different companies. She noted that while they were third-year Software Engineering students, they had the opportunity to join a makerspace program, which helped them gain practical experience.
Arsema also highlighted that through visits to public and private institutions, including BiTeC, they were able to identify real-world challenges. By combining these insights with their academic knowledge and experience, they successfully developed the IIMS software. She further emphasized that BiTeC provided strong support through access to resources and mentorship.
According to the developers, as Ethiopia’s startup ecosystem continues to grow and more incubation centers are established, the IIMS software will play a crucial role in digitizing incubation processes. They added that the system will help streamline training programs for startups and significantly enhance efficiency, while also encouraging entrepreneurship.
In his closing remarks, Ato Hailemariam Mulugeta, Director of the Bahir Dar University Business Incubation and Technology Entrepreneurship Center (BiTeC), expressed appreciation for the university’s ongoing support in strengthening the center. He also called for continued and enhanced support in the future.
