Program Overview

The Garment Making Short-Term Training (GMST) program at EiTEX, Bahir Dar University, is a three-month practical training designed to develop skilled and job-ready garment makers who can contribute to Ethiopia’s growing textile and apparel industry.

The training focuses on equipping unemployed youth, women, and migrant returnees with hands-on skills in garment production, sewing machine operation, pattern making, and basic entrepreneurship.

By combining technical competence with entrepreneurial knowledge, the program prepares trainees not only for immediate employment but also for self-employment and cooperative business ventures in the apparel sector.

Program Goal

¨ To reduce unemployment and irregular migration by creating skilled garment makers.

¨ To promote entrepreneurship and small business development in the apparel industry.

¨ To support Ethiopia’s industrialization goals and enhance productivity in industrial parks.

¨ To empower women and youth through skill-based, inclusive training.

Program Structure and Duration

¨ Total Duration: 3 months (240 hours)

· Theory: 12 1/2 hours (5%)

¨ Practical: 190 1/2 hours (80%)

¨ Assessment/Projects: 37 hours (15%)

¨ Mode of Delivery: Competency-based, hands-on learning

¨ Attendance Requirement: 85% attendance for final evaluation

Entry Requirements

¨ Education: Grade 6 and above

¨ Age: 18 years or older

¨ Experience: Not required (open to new entrants and experienced learners)

Medium of Instruction

¨ Amharic, with English for technical terminologies

Training Fee

¨ Total: 5,400 ETB

¨ Installment: 1,800 ETB per month

Certification

Upon successful completion, trainees receive a Certificate of Competence in Garment Making Short-Term Training awarded by EiTEX, Bahir Dar University with the following Nomenclature
