The Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) held its annual workshop in the Jan Moskov Library Hall. The workshop was held under the theme โTechnology Commercialization: Catalyzing Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Ethiopia,โ and was attended by scholars, students, and invited guests from the sector.
The Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Dr. Bereket Haile, delivered a welcoming speech to the guests and participants of the workshop.
The opening speech was delivered by the Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Technology Transfer at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Dr. Muluken Zegeye.
Dr. Muluken stated that BiT is diligently working to enhance the university-industry linkage by continuously hosting international and annual conferences. Dr. Muluken further extended his gratitude to all collaborating partners who participate in activities carried out in the sector.
Three scholars from the field presented their experiences at the workshop. The first to deliver a keynote message and share his experience was Dr. Sisay Geremew on the topic โTranslating Knowledge into Value: New Horizons for Research Commercialization at BDU.โ Next, Dr. Shimeles Tilahun presented on โDriving Growth Through Innovation and Business Development.โ The third presenter, entrepreneur and owner of several companies, Engineer Bejai Naiker, presented his ideas under the title โIdea Generation, Innovation and Wealth Creation Through Fabrication Engineering Business,โ where he provided a broad explanation to the audience regarding idea generation, creative work (innovation), and wealth creation. Engineer Bejai stated that there is a tendency in Ethiopia to regard support for innovative ideas as simply 'aid' and emphasized that since wealth creation is only possible when an idea exists first, high attention must be given to idea generators.
Finally, the workshop concluded with a panel discussion, a tour of the completed works for the invited guests, and the presentation of certificates of recognition to the parties who made significant contributions to the success of the conference.
