(November 22, 2025 / Bahir Dar) The 7th International ICT Conference, themed "ICT Growth for Africa," was held in the Janmoskov Library meeting hall, organized by the ICT Research and Development Center of the Bahir Dar University Institute of Technology (BiT), with the attendance of numerous scholars and researchers from Ethiopia and abroad.
Dr. Esubalew Alemneh, Director of ICT4D, explained the general content of the conference to the participants, stating that 125 research papers were initially submitted this year, and 90 papers were forwarded to the reviewers after the preliminary screening. He announced that out of the 54 papers selected for this conference, 47 registered and were presented both in-person and online.
Dr. Mohammed Abebe, a lecturer and researcher at Arba Minch University and a member of the ICT4D 2025 organizing committee, stated that the conference was organized to promote the benefits of digital technology to users, supported by research. Dr. Mohammed, noting that Ethiopia and Africa have much progress to make in technology usage, stressed that similar efforts must be strengthened to overcome this challenge. He added that universities have an obligation to conduct and lead research, and the government must fulfill its duty to formulate policies and make digital technology accessible to users.
Dr. Mengesha Ayene, President of Bahir Dar University, gave the opening speech at the 7th International ICT Conference. After welcoming the participants to "beautiful Bahir Dar," he highlighted that Bahir Dar University is a university engaged in extensive teaching, learning, research, and community service, organized across 9 campuses, 3 schools, 3 institutes, and 5 colleges, serving over 30,000 students, 2,000 academic staff, and over 5,000 administrative staff. He stated that the research ideas presented at this conference are considered supportive of the university's mission to become a research university. He added that the university is making a tangible contribution to the national digital transformation agenda. He also called on other Ethiopian universities to become part of the ICT4D initiative.
Dr. Mitiku Damtie, Scientific Director of the Bahir Dar University Institute of Technology, stated that one of the missions assigned to universities is to prepare research work, present research papers, and share knowledge. He added that this conference is more than that—it is a platform where beginner researchers and students can gain experience from established professors. He mentioned that at least 100 papers are published annually through the ICT4D and ICAST centers at the institution, and the main goal of this conference is to share research results, discuss, and generate new ideas.
The 7th International ICT Conference was held over two days through online and group forums and successfully concluded.
