(October 25, 2025,)— Students of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at Bahir Dar University College of Medicine and Health Sciences – Ethiopia, in collaboration with Global Science University – Galkayo, Puntland organized a community outreach event as part of the College’s Developmental Team Training Program (DTTP).
The event combined awareness creation and the distribution of hygiene materials, targeting women who sell milk along the streets of Galkayo. The initiative aimed to enhance women’s awareness of milk hygiene and safety, thereby reducing the health risks associated with unsafe storage and handling of milk.
During the event, the women received essential materials including head-covering umbrellas to protect from sunlight and dust, clean milk storage containers to help preserve the quality of milk and Solar lights to facilitate evening business activities.
The materials were mobilized and collected by the MPH students in collaboration with local partners and community-based institutions in and around Galkayo.
The Developmental Team Training Program (DTTP) is a flagship component of the Community-Based Education (CBE) framework of Bahir Dar University’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences. It enables graduate students to identify, analyze, and address priority public health issues through hands-on, community-driven engagement.
The beneficiary women in Galkayo expressed heartfelt gratitude to the student organizers and donor institutions, Shafisi Pharmacy and Dudur Telecom, emphasizing that the support will help improve hygiene, preserve milk quality, and increase their household income.
The college continues to commend such student-led initiatives, which reflect the College’s mission of producing competent, socially accountable health professionals and fostering sustainable community development through practical engagement.
