[May 27, 2025 Bahir Dar, ISC/BiT]
********
Faculty of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU) has successfully organized Curriculum Review Workshop for the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Agricultural Engineering program. This workshop aimed to align the academic offerings of the program with the dynamic needs of Ethiopia’s agricultural sector and to ensure its continued relevance in addressing national development goals.
The curriculum review is adhered to in the pressing need to modernize agricultural education in Ethiopia. Agriculture remains the backbone of the Ethiopian economy, yet the sector continues to face critical challenges, including low productivity, inefficient resource utilization, post-harvest losses, limited access to mechanization, and environmental degradation. The curriculum envisions producing graduates who are capable of designing, operating, and managing engineering systems that support sustainable and efficient agricultural production.
During the workshop, participants thoroughly reviewed the proposed curriculum content and provided valuable feedback to ensure that the program reflects current technological advancements and the real-world needs of Ethiopia’s agricultural sector. The sessions included presentations followed by active group discussions involving the curriculum development committee, faculty members, and external reviewers, all of whom contributed meaningful insights for the improvement of the program.
