Bahir Dar University, in a strategic partnership with the non-governmental organization YEGNA-IMPACT, has officially concluded a comprehensive capacity-building training program tailored for internally displaced women and returnees from Arab countries.
The three-day initiative, which began on December 29, 2024, was designed to provide participants with the psychological tools and professional skills necessary to overcome past trauma and establish independent livelihoods.
Mrs. Hibralem Zewdu, President of YEGNA-IMPACT, highlighted that this program is a vital component of a larger five-year project dedicated to the holistic empowerment of women and youth. By focusing on mental health, personality development, and entrepreneurship, the training aims to transform the lives of vulnerable populations. In this session, 20 women comprising 15 internally displaced persons and 5 returnees received the training. Mrs. Hibralem expressed her appreciation for Bahir Dar University’s unwavering support, noting that such institutional collaboration is essential for bringing about sustainable social change.
Speaking at the Closing ceremony, Mr. Worku Abebe, Bahir Dar University’s Director of Trainings, reaffirmed the university's commitment to community service and social responsibility. He emphasized the philosophy that empowering women serves as the foundation for building stronger families and a more resilient nation. Mr. Worku stressed that the university’s role extends beyond the classroom, promising that the institution will provide the necessary follow-up and practical support to ensure these women successfully transition into the workforce.
The program concluded with a call to action for the trainees to apply their new skills to achieve economic self-sufficiency. By moving from theoretical training to practical business creation, these women are expected to become beacons of hope and role models within their communities. This initiative marks a significant milestone in Bahir Dar University’s ongoing efforts to support displaced populations and foster inclusive economic growth through education and skill development.
