The college launches Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) hub.

(January 1, 2024,Bahir Dar): Bahir Dar University College of Medicine and Health Sciences held today the official launching ceremony of the Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) hub.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Alemtsehay Mekonen, Dean of School of Public Health, said that the initiative has been in the works for some time now, and it is thrilling to finally see it come to fruition.

In his opening speech, Dr. Nebiyu Shitaye, Director of Quality Assurance and Instititional Transformation at the college, said that our society is facing a myriad of health related problems at a time and establishing the hub is a significant milestone for the college as it is one of the crucial tools to avert them and foster positive social change.

Mr. Melkamu Getinet,  Deputy Head at the Regional Health Bureau, underscored that, currently, the need for understanding and addressing social and behavioural issues has never been more critical and he further affirmed that his office is committed to support the hub to achieve its intended goals.

Presentations of the rapid assesment of SBC were parts of the event and they were made by Professor Fentie Ambaw and Professor Netsanet Fentahun.

The establishment document of the hub was presented by Mr. Yosef Wasihun, Department Head of Health Promotion and Behavioural hubences. In his explanation,  he underlined that it needs a strong partnership with various governmental and nongovernmental organizations, and other stakeholders to capacitate the hub bringe the required positive change.

The participants who came from different organizations and members of the college community  reflected on the presentations made and issues and concerned posed were well addressed by the presenters and other stakeholders.

The college extends its heartfelt gratitude to all those who have contributed to the establishment of the hub.
