Academic Quality Assurance

General Information

The Quality Assurance and Enhancement Office is committed to play a key role for the improvement of quality and relevance of medical teaching, research and community services, building the capacity of health professionals in training, conducting problem solving educational research and providing technical support in collaboration with stakeholders and partners organizations. 

Goals

The main goal of the center is to build the capacity of health professionals, standardize the quality of medical education, promote medical education research and implementing projects and will monitor quality of medical education.

Scope of AQAO

  • To ensure and enhance the Health professional education, training, research, projects and conduct monitoring and evaluation of medical education programs and interventions within and outside the university.
  • Work in the quality improvement of medical and health sciences education of both under graduate and postgraduate programs and education research.
  • Provide consultancy service.

Structure

The Quality Assurance and Enhancement Center (QAEC) shall have four important units. These are:

  1. Faculty development and E-learning unit
  2. Quality Audit and Assessment Unit
  3. Skill lab and clinical practice site  unit
  4. Curriculum Development & Education Research unit

Strategies

  • Effective leadership and governance on assuring quality medical education
  • Faculty development/capacity building and pre-service Education strengthening
  • Continuous quality assessment of the program
  •  Design and conduct methodologically and ethically sound Education research.
  • Plan, implement and monitor community service and problem solving projects.
  • Establish national and international collaboration in medical education, research and work jointly with inter-institution.
  • Promote multi-professional/inter-professional education.

Faculty development and e - learning Unit

  1. Enhance the capacity of staffs and other health professionals involved in the academia.
  2.  Increase the uptake of national and international trainings
  3. Increase resource mobilization
  4.  Improve national and international collaboration and links
  5.  Organize and coordinate in-service trainings.
  6.  Establish and strengthen e-learning platform in collaboration with ICT department.
  7. Facilitate and promote e-learning utilization among all departments and programs for teaching, assessment (continues) and feedback.
  8. Train every academic staff and student to use e-learning platform.
  9. Monitoring and evaluation of the e-learning setup.

Quality Audit and Assessment Unit

  1. Develop and adopt quality performance improvement tools like SBMR process
  2. Monitor curriculum implementation
  3.  Evaluate the outcome and impact of curriculum.
  4. Improve link with stakeholders in the area of quality assurance monitoring and evaluation.

Skill lab and clinical practice site unit

  1. Establish, monitor and oversee strengthen the processes and activities of skills lab.
  2.  Look for and train standardized patient.
  3.  Prepare and provide hands on practice for students before real patient exposure
  4. promote multi-professional education

Curriculum Development & Education Research unit

                Objectives

  1. Revising the current operating curricula periodically (individualize to each program).
  2.  Assist the development curricula for new programs
  3. Documentation and distribution of all finalized curricula to stakeholders.
  4. Formulating curriculum format and procedure guideline.
  5. Facilitate and promote medical educational research.

Current Activities

  • The curriculum Development committee has developed 4 new curricula such us Adult Health Nursing, Pediatric & Child Health Nursing and Internal Medicine.
  • Office organization, the quality assurance unit currently secured its own office.
  • Quality audit for Nursing & Midwifery and Medicine department was done.
  • As per the internal quality audit result, gaps were identified and prioritized
  • Action plan for the 3 departments (Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery) has done based on the identified gap
  • Orientation on National program standard was successfully given for all department heads
  • Review meeting/orientation on clinical practice affiliation site to improve students’ practice & expand sites was done.
  •  Simulation training was prepared for clinical instructors and technical assistant
  • Smart class preparation and Class room Wall painting for few nursing class rooms
  • Quality audit/ internal assessment is conducted every 6 months using HERQA checklist
  • Exam review committee in each department so any type of exam will be approved/ disapproved by the committee
  • students will be given to one instructor and the instructor will follow/help his students
