Professor

Professor Achamyeleh Gashu Adam is full professor of land administration, governance and policy at the Institute of Land Administration, Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He is also serving as President of the Ethiopian Land Administration Professionals Association. His educational background and research interests span a wide range of interrelated topics including land policy and governance, land tenure and use management, land administration, land development, land information systems, with a focus on peri-urban and urban land tenure management. Prof. Achamyeleh obtained a PhD degree in Real Estate Planning and Land Law, with a specialization in Peri-urban Land Management, from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Additionally, He hold an MSc degree in Land Management from the same esteemed institution. He also obtained an MSc degree in Geoinformation Science (GIS) from Bahir Dar University. Furthermore, he is certified development and management consultant. Besides his educational qualification, he has more than 25 years of professional experience in various aspects related to land governance/management and development as a researcher, educator, supervisor, leader, project coordinator and consultant. He has assumed various leadership roles at Bahir Dar University as well as in other organizations. In addition to serving as the Dean of the Institute of Land Administration at Bahir Dar University, Prof. Achamyeleh held several other significant roles, including Coordinator of the Land Governance Interest Group within the East African Land Administration Network (ELAN), Coordinator of the DAAD PhD regional/country scholarship program at Bahir Dar University, and member of the National and Regional Land Policy Reform Task Force Team, among others. More importantly, as an educational specialist in land governance, Prof. Achamyeleh has been actively involved in the curriculum design and development activities for BSc, MSc and PhD Programs in the field of land administration and governance which are launched and hosted in a number of universities both in Ethiopia and abroad in other African countries. Finally, from research and publication perspective, Prof. Achamyeleh has published extensively on topics addressing like urban and peri-urban land tenure management and development; informal settlement; climate-driven land conflicts and climate actions; land governance and migrants’ access; large scale land acquisition for agricultural investment; and overall land administration, governance and policy issues particularly in the context of Ethiopia.
