About Us
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Bahir Dar University was established in 2008 to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, academic excellence, and societal impact. As one of the university's key academic units, the faculty is dedicated to advancing knowledge through quality teaching, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement. The faculty comprises six departments: Political Science and International Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, History and Heritage Management, Social Anthropology, Social Work, and Gender and Development Studies. Through these departments, the faculty offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to address contemporary social, political, cultural, and environmental challenges. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, the faculty nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and professional competence among its students.

Faculty of Social Sciences Reviews 2018 E.C. Performance and 2019 E.C. Annual Plan
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Bahir Dar University conducted its 2018 E.C. annual performance review and presented its 2019 E.C. annual plan in a meeting attended by 92 academic staff members and members of the University’s top management. The meeting reviewed achievements in teaching, research, community engagement, and student and staff development, as well as key challenges encountered during the academic year. The faculty also presented its 2019 E.C. annual plan, aligned with the university's key performance indicators. An open discussion provided an opportunity for participants to raise questions and share suggestions on postgraduate education, student progression, academic advising, administrative services, and institutional performance. The session reaffirmed the faculty's commitment to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in its academic and community engagement activities.
