About Us

The Faculty of Social Sciences at Bahir Dar University was established in 2008 to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, academic excellence, and societal impact. As one of the university's key academic units, the faculty is dedicated to advancing knowledge through quality teaching, innovative research, and meaningful community engagement. The faculty comprises six departments: Political Science and International Studies, Geography and Environmental Studies, History and Heritage Management, Social Anthropology, Social Work, and Gender and Development Studies. Through these departments, the faculty offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs designed to address contemporary social, political, cultural, and environmental challenges.  With a strong commitment to academic excellence, the faculty nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and professional competence among its students.
