Program Objectives
The M.Ed program consists of both course work and a master’s research project (thesis). The thesis is supervised by an advisor assigned by the department. The thesis shall be approved by the department and the Department Graduate Committee. In addition to course work and thesis, the program shall include term papers, practicum and seminars. The program is established with the following purposes:
- To produce intellectuals with the highest caliber of test construction for schools and other educational institutions
- To speed up the training of staff members of the various institutions of higher learning
- To produce educational psychologists who commit themselves in carrying out both applied and basic research on local problems to ameliorate the life of the people in general and to improve the quality of education in particular.
- To train educators who work as program planners, implementers, and evaluators based on the needs of the society, the learner and the government as well as the existing realities of the country.
- To train counselors for secondary and tertiary levels of education.
- Due to the ever changing world, students are subject to many psychological problems that originate from various sources. Students, apart from these problems, need vocational, career, and educational information.
- The counselors help students to resolve their problems and provide them relevant information so that the teaching-learning process could be facilitated and run smoothly.
- For such purposes, the training of these professionals in sufficient number is essentially advisable, which is one goal of the program.

The graduates will have the skills enabling them to:

Program objectives
The MA program in Social Psychology is designed to prepare manpower or professionals who can work in the areas of social and community and group concerns and issues in different governmental and non-governmental organizations as well as other sectors. More specifically, this MA Program in Social Psychology intends to:
- Produce high level human power in the area of Social Psychology
- Train professionals who can conduct and evaluate on various social, psychological and educational problems
- Produce professionals who can design, implement and evaluate various community based intervention programs
- Prepare personnel who can serve as coordinators and leaders of social and civil service programs
- Produce professional who can articulate social problems and deal with them effectively
- Prepare professionals who can value research in guiding the development efforts of the society
- Train instructors in the area of social psychology who can teach in higher learning institutions
- Contribute towards the understanding of social problems in Ethiopia in general and individuals, families, the youth, and children in particular.
- Develop clear insights experience on curriculum development, evaluation and material production in the area of social psychology.

Graduates of the social Psychology MA program shall have the following competencies:

Program Objectives
The Master’s program in Counseling Psychology is to produce competent professionals who will apply psychological knowledge and skills to meet stakeholders‟ demands through research, care and support, training, project design and management in educational, health, forensic and social issues. Specifically, the program is aimed to:
- Produce counselors who are competent in counseling theory and practice to support educational and mental health strategies of Ethiopia
- Lay the ground for the training program that will be promoted into PhD level in the country
- Provide quality behavioral science research to alleviate social, political and occupational challenges in the nation
- Collaborate with stakeholders (educational institutions, prisons, health sectors and social agencies) to prioritize on psychological problems within the nation that has social, political and economic implications.

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
The objective of the ADPS program is to produce graduates who are professionally prepared for teaching, research, and social service in the field along the following areas.
- Disseminate knowledge about developmental processes to practitioners, policymakers, and organizations who impact the development of individuals and families at different points along the lifespan
- Train professionals who can conduct applied research on questions concerning human development
- Train instructors who can teach developmental and applied for developmental courses at college and university level

Through our extensive course offerings, empirical research opportunities, and practical experiences, we train students to develop the following essential skills required for success in the discipline of ADPS. Accordingly, the graduates will be able to:
- Test the validity of developmental theories in real-world contexts Investigate the developmental causes, consequences, and correlates of societal problems
- Construct, administer, and interpret developmentally and culturally sensitive assessment instruments which can identify protective factors and vulnerabilities of individuals at developmental risk

Program objectives
The objectives of the MA program in Measurement and Evaluation aimed at:
- Producing high-level experts in the area of measurement and evaluation.
- Training of instructors of measurement and evaluation for Teacher Education Colleges (TECs) and universities or Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
- Preparing individuals who can conduct various psychological and assessments and testing
- Training experts who would serve as resource persons in test development for elementary schools, secondary schools, research centers, and TECs as well as for non-academic institutions Training individuals who develop, administer, and interpret various tests/measures including achievement, aptitude, vocational, attitude, interest and personality tests.
- Training professionals who will work as monitoring and evaluation experts.
