Training on research ethics

Training on research ethics delivered

A two days training focusing on research ethics convened by the collaborative effort of Ministry of Education, Ethiopia and Bahir Dar University is provided to professionals from Bahir Dar and other universities.

Dr. Tesfaye Shiferaw, V/president for the office of Research and Community services, BDU in the event said that although researches conducted in our context are highly expected to be problem solving, the reality is far from it that the issue is a very pressing one. He showed his concern that overlooking this apparent problem is worsening other related matters like quality of education. Dr. Tesfaye hoped that the training will contribute positively in the effort to address research ethics and other research related challenges.

Dr. Abule Takele, Senior researcher from the Federal Ministry of Education, underscored that ethics is important for research and other professional engagements. He urged all those from various fields of studies involved in research works, knowingly or unknowingly, not to cause any environmental problems, whether human, animal or material, due to the research. Dr. Abule suggested that the research ethics established at the university level should be carried down to the colleges, faculties and institutes and hoped that the training would be successful.

Dr. Fentie Ambaw, Chair of Bahir Dar University Research Ethics board who was facilitating the event thanked all who made the training possible. He stated that the main objective of the training is to establish committees that lead and monitor research ethics at the university level and be recognized by the Ministry of Education.

At the end of the training, certificates have been awarded to the trainees and  participants of the training have visited the greenery and beautification effort in the College of Business and Economics at Peda, BDU.
