The RELO pays a visit to BDR

A US Embassy team led by Dr. Gena Rhoades, the Regional English Language Officer (RELO), held a discussion with the management of Bahir Dar University.

At the meeting, Dr. Firew Tegegne, President of BDU, acknowledged the ongoing support the university is gaining from the US Embassy. Dr. Gena shared the various supports and resources the Embassy could continue to provide to the university to address problems surrounding staff and students' English language skills. The English Access Microscholarship Program that is working with 75 students in three highschools in Bahir Dar city and the English Language Fellow program which is supporting the university's English Language Improvement Center (ELIC) were discussed as the main areas of engagement so far. The RELO indicated that the Embassy continues to work closely with the University to improve the English language skills of the university community and beyond.
