International conferences held with financial support from the US Department of States

Bahir Dar University in collaboration with Mekelle University conducted two international conferences through the US Department of States fund.

The conference theme was "Restorative Practices for Environmental Problems" in which academicians, government officials, US Embassy Addis Ababa representatives, religious leaders, civil society leaders and community elders attended. The conference was held in Mekelle American corner and Addis Ababa Col. John C. Robinson Corner on March 13 and March 15 2024, respectively.

The conference aimed at addressing environmental related disputes through amicable alternative dispute settlement mechanisms through involving the affected communities. Participants of the conference shared their thoughts on the importance of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms to address natural resources related disputes within the community.

Training was offered by Professors from United States of America to Bahir Dar University and Mekelle University Law professors on how to conduct Community Needs Assessments and on leading a mediation clinic to resolve Environmental problems within a community. Similarly, training was also provided to 5th year undergraduate Law students at Mekelle University on how to conduct Community Needs Assessments.
