Building on a decade of partnership, Kyeema Foundation and Bahir Dar University are scaling an integrated “Ripple Effect” model using Newcastle Disease control as a catalyst to improve nutrition, livelihoods, and innovation under a new One Health-focused country strategy for Ethiopia.

The School of Veterinary Medicine at Bahir Dar University (SVM-BDU) was represented at the Ethiopian Veterinary Education (EVE) Dean’s Council meeting in Bishoftu. This pivotal forum brought together deans and leaders from over 15 universities. The forum focused on advancing the national veterinary profession through the implementation of the newly harmonized 'National Veterinary Education Action Plan (VEd-NAP), 2025–2028.

The School of Veterinary Medicine at Bahir Dar University (SVM-BDU), in partnership with BROOKE Ethiopia, has successfully concluded a specialized Equine Foundation Training for public sector veterinarians. The intensive program, held in July 2025, combined theoretical knowledge with hands-on clinical practice to advance skills in compassionate animal handling, health mentoring, and essential medicine management. This initiative strengthens local veterinary capacity and underscores a shared commitment to sustainable equine welfare in the community.

SVM-BDU is set to host a landmark seminar on Friday, June 20, 2025, focusing on the transformation of veterinary education. Featuring Prof. Asaminew Tasew, the session will champion curriculum reforms that prioritize hands-on skills and entrepreneurial competence to better prepare graduates for industry demands.

In a recent SVM Friday Seminar, Dr. Andnet Yirga Assefa, Head of the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health, presented his innovative research on harnessing public genomic repositories to track the global spread of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).
