BDU School of Veterinary Medicine Reviews Annual Performance and Take up 2026/27 Plan

(Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, August 6, 2026) - The School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) at Bahir Dar University successfully held its 2025/26 Annual Performance Evaluation and 2026/27 Annual Plan Review Meeting at the Zenzelema Campus. The event brought together SVM academic and administrative staff, student representatives from the Welfare and One Health clubs, and BDU communication experts to evaluate recent achievements and align on upcoming institutional priorities. 
    
During the presentation of the 2025/26 annual report, SVM Dean Dr. Yeshwas Ferede highlighted major milestones achieved over the past academic year. Significant progress was made in academic staff recruitment and professional development through expanded MSc and PhD training opportunities. The school also revised its DVM and BVSc curricula using an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach, pushed forward with program accreditation efforts, and strengthened blended digital learning initiatives. Additionally, student capacity-building received a boost through key partnerships with Brooke Ethiopia and the Kyeema Foundation, alongside expanded international exchange programs and community-centered research in animal health and livestock development.

Looking ahead, Vice Dean Dr. Shewatatek Melaku presented the strategic roadmap for the 2026/27 academic year, which focuses heavily on institutional growth and service quality. Priorities include upgrading laboratory infrastructure and learning facilities, expanding postgraduate degree programs, and refining practical training and student support systems. The school also aims to boost its research output, accelerate technology transfer, and expand direct veterinary services to the broader community.

The meeting concluded with productive discussions and key recommendations, with leadership reaffirming SVM’s commitment to advancing animal health, welfare, public health, and sustainable development across Ethiopia. The administration expressed deep gratitude to all staff members, student representatives, and external partners for their ongoing dedication to the school’s success.
