SVM Celebrates Academic Milestone with Successful Thesis Defenses

(Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, June 6, 2026) - The School of Veterinary Medicine at Bahir Dar University (SVM-BDU) proudly concluded a successful thesis defense for its Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) candidates. Organized by the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health, the event took place from June 4–5, 2026, at the Zenzelma campus.
During the two-day event, a total of 41 DVM candidates successfully defended their research theses. The Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health coordinated smoothly, allowing the students to highlight their research capabilities and understanding of the field, reflecting the program's academic standards.
The defense sessions featured a distinguished panel of external examiners drawing from leading institutions. This esteemed group included Dr. Achenef Melaku from the University of Gondar, Dr. Samson Leta from Addis Ababa University, Dr. Ahmed Yasine from Wollo University, Dr. Nigus Belayneh from the Andassa Livestock Research Center, Amhara Agricultural Research Institute (ARARI), Dr. Mamo Adane from the Ethiopian Agricultural Authority, and Dr. Endeshaw Demil from the Amhara Regional Veterinary Diagnostics and Investigation Laboratory. Their expert evaluations and valuable insights enriched the academic discourse.
In celebration of this milestone, SVM extends its heartfelt congratulations to all the graduating students. The leadership also thanked Dr. Andnet Yirga, the organizing department head, and Dr. Yechale Teshome, DVM externship program coordinator, and all dedicated faculty, DVM thesis advisors, and staff members for their unwavering support and commitment in guiding our students throughout their academic journey. This achievement further strengthens SVM’s position as a leading institution for veterinary education and research in Ethiopia and beyond.
