Dr. Yekoyesew Worku Belete is a medical doctor, a seasoned health systems specialist, and a global health leader with extensive experience across Eastern and Southern Africa. Currently, based in Kigali, Rwanda, he serves as Director of Global Health Systems at CHAI, redesigning and shaping cross-cutting health system reforms in primary healthcare, mainly focusing on PHC leadership, service delivery, health financing, workforce development, and digital health. Over the past 20 years, he has led high-impact public health initiatives in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and beyond, partnering with governments and international stakeholders to strengthen policy, planning, and execution of health programs.
His leadership career spans across senior roles in the Ethiopian Federal Ministry of Health, CHAI, USAID, Abt Global, and UNICEF, with a track record of designing scalable health system interventions, improving service delivery, and mobilizing resources to advance universal health coverage. Key strengths include policy formulation and review, strategic planning, program design and management, stakeholder engagement, performance improvement, and mentorship. His personal inspiration and ambition in global health is ensuring every person is the owner of and invests in their health matters!
