Objectives
General Objective:
The general objective is to improve livelihood in NWE through increased agricultural productivity and improved sustainable tourism.
Specific objectives:
Specifically, this project will result in
- Livelihood impacts of development-driven interventions such as urbanization, large irrigation dams,
- Enhancing geotourism potentials of the research area
- Migration of people in Northwestern Ethiopia in such better livelihood options

Phase I Research Outputs
- Local landholders are given very little attention in the process of urban expansion and development
- Compensations for land expropriation are not enough
- Farmers show willingness to pay for some of the ecosystem services of land
- Availability of irrigation water is essential to improve both crop revenue and receptivity of the farmers to use modern farm inputs
Phase II Outreach Objectives
- To share research findings on irrigation water availability & factors affecting their farm efficiency.
- To raise awareness among policymakers, government officials, and stakeholders on urbanization dynamics, enhanced compensation schemes, and environmental benefits from expropriated land.
- To inform decision-makers on developing geotourism for sustainable development and educate the public about the values of geosites for conservation and sustainable use.
- To lobby decision-makers and planners to integrate research outcomes into their planning activities, advocating for improved livelihoods and environmental enhancements.
