| The System Development Chair and the Department of Software Engineering strive to develop professionals who can create innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective software systems. As part of the Computing Faculty at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology and Bahir Dar University, the chair is integral to the academic structure. The Department promotes a progressive learning environment that encourages students to become industry leaders through hands-on experience in designing innovative products. The chair focuses on solving real-world problems by creating user-friendly, reliable, and efficient software. Our curriculum fosters teamwork and collaboration, combining courses in engineering, business, computer science, and project management. Students receive mentorship that prepares them to be outstanding engineers and engage in advanced research with faculty and industry partners. They are dedicated to their goals, as the education provided equips them for future success. Our alumni thrive as problem-solvers in esteemed research and project labs. The chair meets its responsibilities by following university regulations and overseeing students' education in engineering principles, algorithm development, and programming, ensuring they gain essential skills for a competitive job market. The combination of theoretical and practical knowledge from the software engineering program gives our graduates a strong advantage as job candidates, with a solid foundation in engineering science, design, mathematics, and programming. The System Development Chair offers Software Engineering programs at both the Bachelor's and Master's levels. | Welcome to the Programming chair. Our team includes over four departments working with undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on research to enhance our scientific, educational, and community service goals. We aim to deepen the understanding of Computing through teaching and research, equipping students with the knowledge to analyze problems and develop algorithmic solutions using various programming paradigms. We train software engineers, computer scientists, IT engineers, and information systems experts while engaging in research and community outreach. Our objectives include providing exceptional education in a student-centered environment, establishing a research center of excellence, and connecting with the community and professionals. We invite dedicated students to excel through hard work. Our faculty is organized into specialized Chair units, including the Programming and Computing Chair. Students can pursue associate's or bachelor's degrees in computer science, information technology, information systems, and software engineering. Our focus is to help students understand operating systems, fundamental programming, data structures, object-oriented programming, parallel processing, and embedded systems. We aim to foster problem-solving skills, develop and debug programs using various tools, and gain practical experience. | |

| The digital revolution has woven AI and Data Science into our everyday lives. With vast data available across sectors, there's a high demand for skilled AI engineers and data scientists. While often used interchangeably, AI aims to create intelligent systems, seen in advancements like machine translation and autonomous vehicles. AI research focuses on developing new algorithms and applying existing neural networks to automate processes for businesses. AI engineers, like data scientists, research problems and acquire data, but they also innovate algorithms and tackle unique challenges, deploying models that often use deep learning techniques. Conversely, data science is a multidisciplinary field that extracts insights from data to aid decision-making, combining statistical methods and machine learning to handle large datasets. Collaboration with data engineers is crucial for data acquisition, followed by exploratory analysis, feature engineering, and model evaluation, utilizing various computational methods from large-scale algorithms to deep neural networks, showcasing the distinct job requirements in the field.
