Disability Service and Support Office at BDU holds discussion with disability and development partners of Britain.

In the event, Dr. Zelalem Temesgen, Director of Disability Service and Support Office, BDU has briefed about the historical development of Bahir Dar University and the establishment of Disability Service and Support Directorate in the University. In his talk, Dr. Zelalem highlighted that the current Bahir Dar University came to existence by the merge of two former institutes:  Bahir Dar institute of technology and the academy of pedagogy, the current college of education and behavioral sciences. He added the establishment of Disability Service and Support Office was realized due to the commitment of the current president of the university who gave priority to the agenda of ratifying establishment of disability directorate which was on table for a long period of time.

In the discussion, the challenges that the Disability Service and Support Directorate is facing in its effort to serve people with disabilities in the university efficiently has been emphasized. Among challenges mentioned lack of Braille embosser, shortage of finance and lack of experienced staff can be mentioned as the most pressing ones. In their remarks, Mr. Adam and Mr. Tamiru promised to collaborate with Bahir Dar University in areas of research, trainings and education of displaced children with disabilities.
