PLANT SCIENCE PROGRAM
Program Objectives
The Department will be fully engaged in training, research as well as extension activities of plant production and protection. The ultimate goal of the Program, therefore, is to improve crop production and productivity in the ANRS in particular and in the country in general thus contributing to improve the livelihood of Ethiopians. The specific objectives of the Program are: to produce sufficient and well trained manpower that will regionally and nationally contribute to generation, dissemination and adoption of improved plant production and protection technologies by providing basic and applied knowledge and skills of crops production; enable the students gain the skill and knowledge of managing and conserving natural resources and protecting the environment; integrate teaching, research and extension activities so as to produce new improved technologies and disseminate them to the farmers.
Graduate Profile
After successful completion of the program, graduates will have the necessary skills, knowledge and attitude toidentify and analyze problems and suggest their appropriate solutions related to plant production and protection interventions. Therefore the graduate of plant science program will have competencies which enable them to be actively engaged in the following employment opportunities:
- Extension workers;
- Farm managers;
- Consultants;
- Instructors;
- Researcher;
- Entrepreneur (self-employment);

Admission Requirement
Successful candidates as per the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Education and Bahir Dar University can be admitted.
Graduation Requirement
Minimum ECTS for graduation is a total of 180 with 2.0 or better cumulative grade point average (CGPA) overall courses and No “F” grade in any course (s) taken.
