MoU Signed Between BDU’s School of Veterinary Medicine and BROOKE Ethiopia

Bahir Dar University’s School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM-BDU) and BROOKE Ethiopia, a UK-based animal welfare organization, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 12, 2025, at BROOKE Ethiopia’s Head Office in Addis Ababa. Dr. Yeshwas Ferede, Dean of SVM-BDU (representing the university president), and Mr. Yohannes Kassim, Country Director of BROOKE Ethiopia, signed the agreement.

This partnership strengthens veterinary education, animal welfare, and community outreach. Key focus areas include improving the Clinical Skills Lab (CSL) and the Animal Health and Welfare Training Centre (AHWTC), enhancing the Animal Health Mentoring Framework Tool (AHMFT) and promoting compassionate animal handling practices to graduate students and academic staff, enhancing Clinical Skill Laboratory (CSL)-Based Competency through Innovation-Driven Student Competitions, strengthen outreach campaigns to support underserved equine farming communities in and around Bahir Dar,  providing foundational training in equine medicine for academic staff, supplying clinical diagnostic materials and consumables to the AHWTC, establishing an equine rehabilitation facility at AHWTC, and developing project proposals to support local livelihoods and climate-resilient agriculture

This MoU reinforces SVM-BDU’s dedication to excellence in veterinary education and community service. More updates will follow as the partnership progresses.
