(Bahir Dar, Ethiopia - June 13, 2025) In a compelling session of the SVM Friday Seminar Series, Dr. Andnet Yirga Assefa, Head of the Department of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at SVM-BDU, delivered an insightful presentation titled, “Harnessing Public Genomic Repositories to Map the Global Distribution of AMR.”

Dr. Andnet highlighted innovative methods for tracking antimicrobial resistance (AMR) using publicly available genomic data, emphasizing applications within a One Health framework. His research highlights how global data can be leveraged to address local and regional public health challenges, reinforcing the critical role of genomic surveillance in combating AMR.

The session emphasized SVM-BDU’s commitment to encourage homegrown talent and promoting knowledge sharing that bridges international training and local impact.
