(Bishoftu, Ethiopia, August 9, 2025) - Dr. Yeshwas Ferede, Dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Bahir Dar University, represented SVM at the Ethiopian Veterinary Education (EVE) Dean’s Council meeting held from August 7–8, 2025. The gathering brought together deans and leaders from over 15 Ethiopian universities to advance veterinary education nationwide.
Chaired by Dr. Hika Waktole of Addis Ababa University, the meeting focused on critical themes such as program accreditation, collaborative frameworks, and the implementation of the harmonized ‘National Veterinary Education Action Plan (VEd-NAP), 2025–2028’. Developed with input from 16 Veterinary Education Establishments, government ministries, and international partners like The Ohio State University, the plan outlines a clear roadmap for elevating veterinary training standards in Ethiopia.
Participants also attended an Equine Health and Welfare Seminar hosted by The Donkey Sanctuary, featuring expert presentations on dystocia, infectious diseases, artificial breeding, and curriculum gaps in equine medicine.
SVM extends gratitude to CVMA–TDS for hosting this collaborative and forward-thinking forum.
