April 25, 2025, _We were honored to host an important seminar on “Veterinary Cold Chain Management: Ensuring Effective Vaccines” presented by Dr. Hailu Mazengia. The event was graced by the presence of our esteemed School of Veterinary Medicine Dean, Dr. Yeshwas Ferede; Vice Dean, Dr. Shewatatek Melaku; along with Department heads, faculty members from both the School of Veterinary Medicine and the Department of Animal Science.
Dr. Hailu delivered a comprehensive presentation addressing the critical systems required to maintain vaccine efficacy throughout the cold chain process. His lecture emphasized three fundamental pillars: the importance of skilled personnel in proper vaccine handling, the necessity of reliable cold storage equipment, and the implementation of rigorous standard operating procedures.
A significant portion of the presentation focused on practical aspects of cold chain monitoring techniques and risk management strategies. He particularly highlighted common challenges such as temperature fluctuations during transportation and power interruptions at storage facilities, offering practical solutions drawn from field experience.
In his concluding remarks, he presented actionable recommendations to strengthen cold chain systems, which resonated strongly with our academic community. Finally, Dr. Yeshwas commended the presentation for its practical relevance to Ethiopia’s animal health landscape.
