Strategic Directions
- 1. Enhancing the quality of Veterinary Epidemiology and Veterinary Public Health education by strengthening undergraduate and postgraduate programs in epidemiology and public health, integrating emerging public health threats (e.g., antimicrobial resistance and climate change) into the curriculum, and expanding training in biostatistics, disease modeling, and digital epidemiology.
- 2. Strengthening Demand-Driven Research and Innovation Capacity by promoting interdisciplinary research in infectious diseases, food safety, and antimicrobial resistance, strengthening collaboration with research institutions, and developing a research hub focused on zoonotic disease surveillance and One Health approaches.
- 3. Expanding Community Engagement and Service Delivery by establishing partnerships with local health authorities to strengthen disease surveillance and outbreak response, conducting public health awareness campaigns on zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial stewardship, and supporting policy development through evidence-based research and advisory services.
- 4. Advancing Capacity Building for Staff and Resources Development by training the next generation of public health professionals and epidemiologists, seeking funding opportunities for research projects and laboratory infrastructure, and developing continuing professional development (CPD) programs for health professionals.
- 5. Strengthening Policy and Global Health Engagement by advocating for public health policies addressing food safety and infectious disease control, engaging in global health networks and One Health initiatives, and contributing to Ethiopia’s national health strategies through scientific research and policy recommendations.
