Background

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) at Bahir Dar University is the pioneer institute of technology offering higher education in the field of engineering and technologies since its establishment as Bahir Dar Poly Technique Institute. The institute aspires to become a leading institute that prepares graduates to become competent professionals, entrepreneurs and innovators through quality education.

Following the institute of technology (IOTs) autonomy directives 001/2013, the institute has become more empowered with leadership and managerial activities within the university. As a result of this autonomous directives 001/2013 the institute establishes SANS and Pre-Engineering Coordination Office in 2018/19 under Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) - Bahir Dar University with a multi-discipline support for the producing of creative researchers, outstanding academicians and community welfare-centric scientists in different areas of institute. The office of SANS and Pre-Engineering, in accordance with the aims of the institute, has been effectively working on the provision of quality education, and is conducting various community service and research activities that would alleviate the immediate problems of the communities and societies. The office does not admit students of its own up to graduation, unlike the rest of faculties and departments, but offers a broad spectrum of institute requirement courses to engineering and science students. Furthermore, it admits and coordinates the first-year pre-engineering students up to their department placement. The office has two academic units which run these diverse courses: i.e., Mathematics & Statistics unit, Language & Ethical Studies Unit.
