M.Sc. in Land Use Planning and Development Management
The MSc program in land use planning and development management is expected to produce higher level land development and management professionals with strong analytical, leadership and research skills and knowledge capable of leading and advising the spatial part of land administration and management of cities and rural land administration agencies using land use planning skills. The program will have a combination of skill oriented and theoretical courses with the aim of enabling students to solve system related problems of the urban and rural land sector and to provide policy advising. The program is also designed to produce students with research skill and international knowledge in land use planning, land tenure and management that enable them to have critical analysis and problem solving skills.
General Objectives
The program aims at providing a modern education on land use planning and development management in Ethiopia. The program shall use a unified approach in the sense that the issues will be addressed in respect to both urban and rural areas. As the curriculum focus more on land use planning and land development management, graduates will excel themselves to theoretical and practical knowledge so as to develop an inter-disciplinary approach to solve Land Administration problems in different domains.
Specific objectives
The specific objectives of MSc program in Land Use Planning and Development management are to:
●Provide learning opportunities so that students can be equipped with the knowledge and understanding, skill and competency to undertake research particularly in land use planning and land development Management support land administration system development.
●To get professionals in the field of land use planning and development Management who are confident to apply their skills in understanding the problem of the society, and make a useful contribution to the solution;
●Contribute to the university‟s objectives of expansion of graduate studies and to be centre of excellence in the field of land use planning and land development management.
●To strength the ties between the university and governmental and nongovernmental organization in the area of land use planning and development Management
Therefore, the fundamental reason to create the MSc program is to address the demand in the field of specialization. The total load of the program is 34 Credit hours (including thesis).
Admission Requirement of the Program
An applicant for admission to the MSc in Land Use Planning and Development Management should meet the following academic requirements:
i. The applicant should have a Bachelor degree in the relevant fields of Land Administration and Surveying, Land Use Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Property Valuation, Architecture, Geo-information Science (GIS), Geography, Surveying, Urban Planning, Civil and Water Resource Engineering, Agricultural Engineering Water shade and Natural Resources Management and Related Fields.
ii. The applicant must pass an entrance examination set by the Institute. Foreign applicants may, in line of sitting for entrance examination, submit the results of GRE or equivalent examinations (if the medium of instruction is not English) and attested documents of credentials.
Applicants must also meet other academic and non-academic criteria, as may be laid down by the school of graduate studies of the BDU regarding work experience, recommendation letters, CGPA, etc.
