Ethiopian Students Make History at PAMO and PAIO 2026 as Bahir Dar University and esteemed partners Support Their Historic Achievement Ethiopian students achieved historic success at the 2026 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) and Pan African Informatics Olympiad (PAIO), earning multiple medals and an Honourable Mention. Bahir Dar University contributed to this achievement through the participation of students from its STEM Incubation Center, including PAIO Silver Medalist Nobel Desalegn Shetie and Bronze Medalist Mikiyas Shegaw Alemu. BDU also made significant contributions through the leadership and mentoring by its staff from the department of Mathematics, a special recognition to Abdu Mohammed (PhD), throughout the Olympiad preparation process. The achievements reflect the value of sustained training, mentorship, institutional support, and collaboration among universities, schools, professional associations, government institutions, and other partners. Building on this success, BDU remains committed to nurturing talented young Ethiopians and contributing to a stronger national pathway toward PAMO, PAIO, and Ethiopia’s first participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

Bahir Dar University (BDU) and Partners in Education Ethiopia (PiEE) have renewed their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reaffirming and expanding a partnership that has spanned nearly a decade and improved the learning, health, and wellbeing outcomes of children and youth across the Amhara National Regional State.

The Nile Executive Leadership Academy (NELA) at Bahir Dar University has successfully concluded its "Presidential Young Leadership Training Program (PYLT-P 2026): Summer Leadership Camp," held from July 8 to July 27, 2026. The program brought together selected Student Union Presidents from 10 Ethiopian universities, including Addis Ababa University, and concluded with a colorful graduation ceremony. 

Bahir Dar University has honored Emeritus Professor Mohammed Salih with a prestigious recognition award in appreciation of his outstanding service and enduring contribution as a lecturer, researcher, and doctoral supervisor in the University's PhD Program in Political Science and International Studies.

The Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD) donated learning materials to Bahir Dar University with the support of the Finnish Universities Union (SYL). The donation included audio recording devices, computers, and desks.

Bahir Dar University has signed a landmark agreement worth over 1 billion Birr to establish a comprehensive partnership in leather processing, footwear design, leather goods manufacturing, capacity building, research, and industry linkage.

Bahir Dar University's Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Office of the Vice President for Research and Community Engagement, has launched the 13th BDU Maths Camp for Grade 9 and 10 students under the theme “Learn Mathematics Through Fun.” The camp aims to build students' interest in mathematics through creative activities such as games and puzzles while encouraging collaboration and academic aspiration.
