Dr. Berhanu Bulcha is an internationally recognized Ethiopian-American space scientist and NASA Principal Investigator who bridges the gap between aerospace innovation and youth empowerment. Following his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia and a tenure as a staff scientist at MIT, he made groundbreaking contributions at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center by developing a compact terahertz laser designed to detect water on the Moon. Recognized as one of the Photonics 100 for his patented work in light-spectrum technologies, Dr. Bulcha remains deeply committed to his homeland's future.

Ethiopian Students Make History at PAMO and PAIO 2026 as Bahir Dar University and esteemed partners Support Their Historic Achievement
Ethiopian students achieved historic success at the 2026 Pan African Mathematics Olympiad (PAMO) and Pan African Informatics Olympiad (PAIO), earning multiple medals and an Honourable Mention.
Bahir Dar University contributed to this achievement through the participation of students from its STEM Incubation Center, including PAIO Silver Medalist Nobel Desalegn Shetie and Bronze Medalist Mikiyas Shegaw Alemu.
BDU also made significant contributions through the leadership and mentoring by its staff from the department of Mathematics, a special recognition to Abdu Mohammed (PhD), throughout the Olympiad preparation process. The achievements reflect the value of sustained training, mentorship, institutional support, and collaboration among universities, schools, professional associations, government institutions, and other partners.
Building on this success, BDU remains committed to nurturing talented young Ethiopians and contributing to a stronger national pathway toward PAMO, PAIO, and Ethiopia’s first participation in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

The Nile Executive Leadership Academy (NELA) at Bahir Dar University has successfully concluded its "Presidential Young Leadership Training Program (PYLT-P 2026): Summer Leadership Camp," held from July 8 to July 27, 2026. The program brought together selected Student Union Presidents from 10 Ethiopian universities, including Addis Ababa University, and concluded with a colorful graduation ceremony.
