Building Resilience: 4th-Year Students Complete Specialized NIMS Training
The Institute of Disaster Risk Management and Food Security Studies is proud to announce the successful completion of a high-impact, five-day certified training for 4th-year Disaster Risk and Sustainable Development students, held from February 17–21, 2026, at the Institute’s Smart Classroom and Conference Hall on Zenzelema Campus, Bahir Dar University.
Titled "Emergency Management System with Special Emphasis on National Incident Management Systems (NIMS)," the training was designed to bridge theory and practice—equipping students with the applied skills needed to lead in disaster risk reduction and sustainable development. The sessions brought classroom concepts to life through interactive, exercise-based learning that mirrored real-world emergency management scenarios.
A total of 39 students—11 women and 28 men— took part with remarkable enthusiasm and commitment. Feedback from participants highlighted the training as transformative, noting that it was not only engaging but also effectively synthesized the core themes of their four-year academic journey. Students unanimously recommended that the training be sustained for future cohorts to ensure continued excellence and readiness.
The training was delivered by a team of distinguished institute experts, each possessing extensive field experience and specialized qualifications, including Training of Trainers (ToT) certification on NIMS. Their expertise brought depth and credibility to every session, inspiring students to embrace excellence in service of community and country.
Together, we are shaping a future where knowledge meets action—and where disaster risk management becomes a cornerstone of sustainable development.
