Kumilachew is an Assistant professor at the Institute of Disaster Risk Management and Food Security studies, Bahir Dar University. He has more than thirteen years of experience in research, community engagements , and teaching with a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence. He has led and participated in nationally and internationally funded projects. His research interests include; conflict, disaster risk management, gender, contemporary social problems, religion, development and livelihood studies.

Qualitative Research Consultant, Malaria Operational Research, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Holland 

• This study investigates the social implications of implementing the R21 malaria vaccine among the South Sudanese refugee population at Kule Refugee Camp, Gambella, Western Ethiopia. As an independent research consultant, I led the qualitative study on the R21 malaria vaccine's social impact in Kule Refugee Camp, Ethiopia. Targeting South Sudanese refugees, I conducted interviews and focus groups to assess community perceptions, evaluated engagement strategies, and provided actionable recommendations to improve vaccination effectiveness for this population.

The University of Leeds conducted a three-month feasibility study for the "Non-formal Education (NFE) for Youth-Led Change Project," assessing British Council NFE program methodologies and their impact on youth empowerment, peacebuilding, and social change. I managed day-to-day data collection, ensured high-quality transcription, and prepared the report with insights and recommendations for future development.

Project Member, Restoration and Conservation of Ge’ez Manuscripts in War-Affected North Gondor and North and South Wollo Zonal Districts, The British Council 

• The British Council Cultural Protection fund has awarded a grant amount of £99,989.17. Bahir Dar University will be running the project in partnership with Amhara National Regional State Culture and Tourism Bureau and Authority for Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage. This project focuses on the restoration and conservation of 17 manuscripts from South and North Wollo and 23 manuscripts from North Gondor. A baseline study will be conducted and the project team will work on conserving manuscript preparation knowledge through providing intergenerational training and workshops in conservation and restoration for the local community. I participated in the project proposal writing and I am working as a project officer.

Three articles resulted from the findings of this research were published in internationally peerreviewed journals.
