Self Awareness / Knowing Your Self

  • The overall understanding a person has about his /her identities (physical, emotional, cognitive images, strengths and weaknesses, etc.).
  • Self-awareness is the first step in creating what you want and mastering yourself

Improving Self-Concept

—Look for positive relationships with others
—Surround yourself with positive people who will support you.
—Spend time doing activities you enjoy
—Learn to be enjoy being alone and doing activities that only you might enjoy.
—Develop professional knowledge
—Identify ones own career choice
—Identify ones own strength and weakness
—Develop a sense of humor

self-esteem

—Self-esteem is the sense of worth you attach to yourself, it’s a word describe a positive self-concept.
—Taking pride in your work, profession, knowledge, skills  and your accomplishments shows a positive self-esteem.
—It is a personal statement you make to yourself that describes your self-worth.
—You are a worthy person. If you feel you are worthwhile person, it will show in your relationships with others.
—If you accept yourself you are more likely to accept others.

Low self-esteem results from you having a poor self-image caused by your attitude to one or more of the above

 High Self-esteem  

  • It is a very important aspect of your life. If you have a high level you will be confident, happy and sure of yourself. You would be highly motivated and have the right attitude to succeed.

Self-Confidence

  • It is a belief in yourself and your abilities, a mental attitude of trusting or relying on yourself.
  • Confidence is sometimes equated with freedom from doubt ;  however, confidence is needed it is usually when the outcome is uncertain, so that true confidence is actually about feeling  comfortable with uncertainty and not knowing what the outcome will be.

WHAT ARE VALUES?

—Values are those things that really matter to each of us…the ideas and believe that we hold as special.
—Once value is internalized, it becomes either consciously or unconsciously, a standard for guiding actions and making choices.

Ways to develop feeling of self-confidence:

—Knowing that success can bread self confidence
—Appreciating and seeing successful people and models.
—Focusing on problems that one can be victorious.
—Being patient
—Evaluating ones strong and weak sides
—Accepting good and encouraging opinions.
—Identifying and knowing those things which will bring negative thoughts.
—Focusing on the strong side.

ASSERTIVENESS

—Assertiveness is the direct and honest communication of your opinions, feelings, needs, and rights in a way that does not violate the personal rights of others.
—It involves standing up for your own rights, while acknowledging the rights of others, and working towards a win-win solution.

How to be Assertive 

—Stating a strong refusal (expressing a clear “NO”);
—Giving a good reason (justifying the “NO”);
—Offering an alternative (presenting a different choice);
—Taking a caring approach (describing why the “NO” is better for everyone); and
—Stepping back (buying time by delaying a decision).
