The joint Regional Master (JRM) program was organized by BDU _IDRMFSS in collaboration with WCDI, VHL, University of Juba (UJ) and University of Hargeisa (UH) on May 24 – 26, 2021 at Bahir Dar, Ethiopia Benmass hotel.

 
The joint Regional Master (JRM) program was organized by BDU _IDRMFSS in collaboration with WCDI, VHL, University of Juba (UJ) and University of Hargeisa (UH) on May 24 – 26, 2021 at Bahir Dar, Ethiopia Benmass hotel.  The workshop participants were 8 instructors from BDU_IDRMFSS, 3 instructors from UJ, 3 instructors from UH, 1 instructor from WCDI and 4 instructors from VHL
 
Workshop objectives were
ü  To update the joint regional master program  progress
ü  To develop joint regional Master program curriculum for the horn of Africa on Disaster Risk Management and Resilient Food System
ü  To create Professional network between the consortium members of the institutional collaboration program
ü  To develop plan for next step of joint regional Master program curriculum implementation
 
   Expected outputs of the workshop
ü  Workshop Participants will know each other
ü  Understand the program objectives and implementation modalities
ü  Identify  and develop modules and courses of Joint Regional master Program
ü  Devise strategies  and models of Plan how to implement the program  and
      Sustainably operational
 
 
Introduction of Consortium member universities in the horn of Africa and their programs related to DRM and FSR performance in each university to strengthen DRM and food system resilience education, research and community engagement in each consortium member universities has been presented.
        JRM program development performce so far were presented by Dr. Adane Tesfaye. In this presentation background, rational, goal ad objectives of the program we framed last time, professional ad graduate profile of the program, admission requirement, graduate requirement, duration of the program, language of the program, module ad courses identified and other issues has been addressed and discussed with the participants as input for the development of detail module and course guide book. 
For development of the JRM program modules and course guide books, the workshop participants endorse all the identified modules by the consortium member core team.
However,
üIn Module 1, Agricultural and Environmental Risk Management course (4+1)   has divide in to Agricultural Risk Management (2+1) and Environmental Risk Management (2+1) due to the bulkiness of the course. Other courses in the module are endorsed as it is. The module total credit hour is changed from 11 to 12.
 
ü  In module 2, the course;
üLivelihood and Food and Nutrition Security: Concepts & Programming naming is changed to Livelihoods, Food and Nutrition Security. This change is made to make the course name catchy for stalk holders.
üCrisis and food security naming is changed to crisis ad food emergencies. This change is made to make the course name catchy for stalk holders.
üFood System Resilience naming is changed to Resilience in food system. This change is made to make the course name catchy for stalk holders.
ü  I module 3, the course;
üConcepts and fundamentals of Sustainable development course name is changed to Sustainable Development theories and practices. The course scope should be beyond concepts and basics.
 
üInstitutions, policies and strategies course name is changed to Policies, Strategies and Institutions in DRM and Food system because the course needs to be focused.
üSocial and economic issues in SDGs and DRR course name is changed to pastoralism, disaster ad Development. Because issues in SDG will address on Policies, Strategies and Institutions in DRM and Food system course   and DRR will be addressed on concepts and fundamentals of integrated Disaster Risk Management
 
 
ü  Module 4 ad 5 both the modules ad courses have accepted as it is.
 
ü  Next to that decision, the participants grouped in to four groups and develop the detail module ad course guide book. Some of them has completed some of them did not complete due to time constraints we agreed to finalize at hope ad send back to me for compilation.
 
ü  Finally, the team had discussions on the next steps of action to operationalize the program at regional level. Some the actions to e doe are ;
ü   Finalize module ad course guide books submission and validation  on June 1st, 2021
ü   Submission for respective university curriculum committee on mid-June, 2021
ü   Endorsement  of curriculum by respective university senate on end of June, 2021
ü   Program advertisement and call for  applicants on mid-July 2021 
ü   Course manual development  throughout August, 2021
 
ü  Inauguration and launching workshop on October, 2021
