A GERD conference is organized on August 5 and 6, 2021

BDU, in collaboration with the GERD public participation coordination office, is organizing a GERD conference on Thursday and Friday (August 5 and 6, 2021). The two-days conference focuses on addressing the two major potential threats of the GERD, which are siltation and infestation of invasive weeds, through a basin-wide integrated watershed management.

There will be technical presentations from MoWIE, BDU and AAU, reports on watershed management efforts from Agricultural Bureaus of the three regions in the basin (Oromia, Benishangul and Amhara) and success stories and lessons on watershed related researches and model practices from the 10 universities in the basin. 

At the end of the conference, an MoU will be signed among MoWIE, Regional Bureaus of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the 10 Universities in the basin in order to develop 10 prioritized watersheds which have been selected in the "One Plan One Report for Integrated Abbay Basin Development" project.
