OVERVIEW

Bahir Dar University Sport Academy is committed to cultivating qualified sports professionals, physical educators, and exercise scientists equipped to drive sports development and academic excellence across the nation. The Sport Academy offers diverse programs tailored for flexible learning across both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels through Regular, Extension (Evening), and Distance modalities across multiple regional centers.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS & ASSIGNMENT PATHWAYS

As per the university legislation and admission policy, candidates enter the Sport Academy through three primary pathways:

1. Ministry of Education (MoE) National Direct Assignment

  • Target Group: Students directly placed into the Sport Academy at the undergraduate level by the Ministry of Education.
  • Criteria: Must achieve the required national entrance cut-off score for the given academic year and fulfill MoE placement guidelines.
  • Payment: Tuition and institutional support are covered under the standard government cost-sharing system (no private tuition fee required).

2. Internal Department Placement (Post-Freshman Selection)

  • Target Group: Enrolled Bahir Dar University undergraduate students completing their general freshman curriculum.
  • Criteria: Department placement is based on student interest, academic performance (GPA) in freshman courses, physical fitness screening (where applicable), and available department capacity.
  • Payment: Administered under the standard university cost-sharing policy.

3. Private / Self-Sponsored Applicants (Undergraduate & Postgraduate)

  • Target Group: Self-funded applicants enrolling in Extension (Evening), Distance, or Regular self-sponsored programs (B.Sc., B.Ed., PGDT, M.Sc., Ph.D.).
  • Academic Criteria:
    • Undergraduate: Met the relevant MoE cut-off score, diploma/TVET upgrading requirements, or successful Remedial Program completion.
    • Postgraduate/PGDT: Hold an accredited Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s/PGDT) or Master’s degree (for Ph.D.) in Sport Science, Physical Education, or a related discipline, and pass department entrance examinations.
  • Payment Requirement: Applicable exclusively to private/self-sponsored students. Applicants must pay the non-refundable application fee (300 ETB) and required credit-hour/tuition fees to the official bank account (Bahir Dar University Internal Revenue, CBE Account No. 1000224663378) and submit the original deposit receipt during registration.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS FOR ALL CANDIDATES

  • Original and non-refundable photocopies of all educational credentials (high school transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or student copies).
  • Official academic transcripts sent directly to P.O. Box 79 (for upgrading, transfer, and postgraduate applicants).
  • Copy of bank payment receipt (for private/self-sponsored applicants only).
