The Department of Physical Education is dedicated to preparing highly competent, reflective, and professionally committed physical education teachers and practitioners. The Department combines theoretical knowledge, pedagogical preparation, practical experience, and physical activity to develop graduates capable of promoting quality physical education and lifelong participation in physical activity.

The Department emphasizes teaching and learning, curriculum development, instructional methods, assessment, physical activity, and professional practice. Through outcome-based education and practical training, students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and professional values needed to contribute effectively to schools, educational institutions, and the wider community. 

Specific objectives include:

  • Equipping trainees with the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to become effective physical education teachers.
  • Developing reflective practitioners who can assess and improve their own practices.
  • Fostering an understanding of teacher professionalism, ethical practice, and the responsibilities of physical education teachers.
  • Promoting lifelong learning and development for physical education professionals.
  • Encouraging research to inform and develop professional practice.
  • Providing students with knowledge, skills, and attitudes in sports, exercise science, coaching, and management.
  • Provide trained personnel who can lead and organize intramural & extramural activities in different organizations.
