Research Interests: 

Zelalem Leyew Anteneh currently works at the Department of Geology, School of Earth Sciences, and Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia. He has published papers in the broad field of geosciences. He is interested to carry out research work in the area of: Hydrogeology, Hydrogeochemistry, Isotope Hydrology, Groundwater Recharge, Groundwater Modelling, Groundwater Management, Hydrogephysics, Remote sensing and GIS, Contaminant Hydrogeology, Groundwater Chemistry/ Water Quality and Environmental Chemistry, Water and Climate

Professional Experience: 

  1. Principal Investigator and Leader of Water Supply Team (May 2022 – Present): Leading the development and management of groundwater sources and supervising shallow well construction for the Mogedel Rural Village Development Project in the Zenzelima area.
  2. Played a significant role in investigating groundwater potential sites, selecting deep well drilling locations, designing wells and specifications, and supervising drilling for Bahir Dar University groundwater supply identification and well drilling project from September 20, 2019, to September 23, 2023 (Developed 4 Productive deep wells for BDU)
  3.  Professional Hydrogeological Report Evaluation and Conference Participation (2022 –2024): Engaged in evaluating hydrogeological reports and participating in conferences, notably with UNICEF.
  4. Played a significant role in investigating groundwater potential sites, selecting deep well drilling locations, designing wells and specifications, and supervising drilling for Bahir Dar University's groundwater supply identification and well drilling project from September 20, 2019 to September 23, 2023 (Developed 4 Productive deep wells for BDU)
  5. Chairperson of SES Staff Promotion Committee (September 11, 2018 – August 24, 2023): Led the School of Earth Sciences staff promotion committee, overseeing faculty advancements.

  8.  Associate Editor at Ethiopian Journal of Science and Technology (EJST) (September 2016 – March 2023): Contributed to the editorial process, ensuring the publication of high-quality scientific research.
  9.  Active Participation in Bahir Dar City Structural Plan Project (July 2018 – November 2022): Assessed geological materials and evaluated surface and groundwater resources to promote sustainable management.

  13. Community Training on Water Scheme Development and Management: Provided training and raised awareness among rural communities and technical personnel regarding water scheme development and management.

  15. Investigation and Mapping of Geology and Mineral Resources in North and South Wollo (March 27, 2017 – July 3, 2018): Actively involved in a joint project between ANRS Mines Agency and Bahir Dar University, focusing on geological and mineral resource mapping over an area of 5,403.28 km².
  16. Principal Investigator and Supervisor for 'Kefta Wuha' Bottling PLC Groundwater Source Development (October 10, 2015 – May 28, 2016): Led the investigation, design, construction, and supervision of groundwater sources for the bottling plant in the Dangila area.
  17. Research in Bir-Adama Sub-Watershed Integrated Development Project (November 2010 – May, 2011): Conducted research focusing on geological, hydrogeological, and engineering geological aspects, culminating in a published technical report.
  18. Establishment of Geology Department at Bahir Dar University (2010): Founded the Geology Department and played a central role in its promotion to the School of EarthSciences in 2016.
  19. Community Services in Geosciences (Since 2017): Conducted over 20 community service projects, primarily focusing on hydrogeology and engineering geology.
  20. Development and Approval of Modular Curricula: Played a central role in creating and approving modular curricula for BSc in Geology and MSc in Hydrogeology and Geophysics.
  21. Project Advisor for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department Students (2004 – 2007): Coordinated projects and advised middle-level trainees, contributing to their practical education.
  22. Participation in Woreta-Gubena Quarry Project (April 4 – August 30, 2012): Evaluated the quality and quantity of natural geological construction materials, delineated the quarry area, and estimated reserves for the project owned by Amhara Region Urban Development and Construction S.C.
  23. Experience in Geological Mapping: Gained extensive experience in mapping sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks, along with associated engineering and hydrogeological features.
  24. Service at Bahir Dar Construction Technology College: Worked as a Graduate Assistant II and Assistant Lecturer, contributing to academic instruction and development.
